Vault

Ok, I have to eat a little crow. Vault really isn't the incarnation of Satan on Earth...IF it is implemented properly. I just had a rough week fixing an upgrade gone bad. It was one of those deals where the client tried a few things before taking any advisement from us.

Things you MUST do to make your Vault implementation go smoothly:

  1. Get a dedicated server. It isn't going to do you much good to use Vault if your backup server, mail server, and file share go down and happen to be one in the same.
  2. Get I.T. involved. They are not just for fixing paper jams anymore.
  3. Work with your reseller! They have done this before. Trust them.
  4. Train your staff. Vault workflows are beautiful and elegant when everyone understands and uses the process.
  5. Understand and use ADMS. There are tools in there to compact and ensure the stability of your data. Don't fear the purge.
The new SQL Express based Vault promises to be more stable and flexible environment. Going forward I believe that upgrades will be a lot more idiot-proof.

Ok, I promise no more throwing FUD.
